John R Kazanjian, Managing Director

John R. Kazanjian is the Managing Director for RTK Resort Group. He is concurrently serving as Project Director for Piazza San Lorenzo, a luxury high-lifestyle mixed-use community on San Antonio’s famed Riverwalk. Mr. Kazanjian most recently served as Executive Vice President of Star Resort Group, was a co-founder of The World’s Finest Resorts and concurrently served as CEO of Resort Development & Advisors.                                                                          

Mr. Kazanjian brings 35+ years of experience in real estate property development, marketing and sales. John spent the first decade of his career focused in second-home recreational resort development. For the past two and a half decades, John has centered his attention in fractional resort real estate and vacation ownership development. Mr. Kazanjian has provided pre-development advisory services regarding luxury fractional resort real estate structure to numerous resort developers.

John is particularly known for his vision and team leadership abilities. John’s combined sales and resort planning experience provides a unique perspective that ensures project continuity from program conceptualization stages through to successful marketing and sales campaigns.

Mr. Kazanjian has held hands-on sales management responsibilities generating more than $300 million dollars in resort sales at urban, beach, mountain and inland resorts. He has directed sales organizations with: The Cliff Club at Snowbird, which was awarded the Gold ARDY for Sales Team - Mid-Sized Project at the ARDA 2000 Convention; The Welk Resort Group at Lawrence Welk Resort Villas in Escondido, CA; Winners Circle Resorts International at Gaslamp Plaza Suites in San Diego, CA; and Harich-Tahoe Developments as General Sales Manager for The Ridge Tahoe in South Lake Tahoe/Stateline, NV.

As COO of Mega Coffield Kazanjian, Inc. Environmental Planners, John spent the first decade of his career focused in larger scale land use issues, many of which involved the negotiation and resolution of issues stemming from the complex inter-relationships and opposing forces between socio-economic, financial and physical design demands on public and private land. Such was the case in the land use conflicts that were created from the growth and expansion of the Portland International Airport into surrounding private property.

In 1973-74, John Kazanjian played a key role as a consultant to Oregon's Governor Tom McCall in his successful effort to establish legislation that led the nation as the first significant, environmentally oriented, statewide land use legislation. He also served at the request of the Governor as Planner-in-Charge for the Southeast Oregon Council of Governments, where he directed the master policy planning and administered the flow of Federal funds to the cities and counties in the council that comprised approximately one-fifth of the land area within the State of Oregon.

Mr. Kazanjian has directed the conceptual design of numerous second-home residential development projects to guide them through successful zone changes, entitlement processes and permit approvals.  John Kazanjian began his professional planning career in 1970 with Emil Hanslin and Associates in Waquoit, MA where his contributions, cited by Time Magazine as one of the best conservation ideas since cluster planning, assisted in winning national awards for the vacation community of Eastman in Grantham, N. H.

John earned his B.S. degree in landscape architecture from Rutgers University and his MLA degree in land-use planning from the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University. He is a member of the American Resort Development Association (ARDA) and is certified as a Registered Resort Professional (RRP). John is a frequent speaker on the subject of fractional interest resorts at the annual Ragatz Fractional Symposium and ARDA sponsored conventions. He has a California real estate sales license.
